The best Magic Kingdom rides for kids under 40 inches are the gentle classics: Peter Pan's Flight, "it's a small world", the Haunted Mansion, Dumbo, the carousel and Pirates of the Caribbean, none of which has a height minimum. Plenty of the most beloved rides in the park are open to your smallest riders, so a short child doesn't mean a short day.
Ride rules and heights can change, so double-check each attraction on Disney's official website or app before you go and measure your child at home first.
Rides with no height requirement
- Peter Pan's Flight: a soft, glowing ride over London and Neverland. Lines get long, so go early.
- "it's a small world": a calm boat ride that most toddlers love.
- Haunted Mansion: spooky in tone but mild. Some very young children find the dark rooms a little scary.
- Pirates of the Caribbean: a slow boat ride with a small drop. Check the scare level for your child.
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant and the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel: perfect for little ones who love to spin and fly.
- The Jungle Cruise and the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: easy, funny and short on thrills.
Rides with a lower height minimum
A few of the park's more exciting rides have minimums below 40 inches. The Barnstormer in Storybook Circus has been listed at 35 inches and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at 38 inches. Many other coasters need 40 inches or more, so a child who is just under the line may have to wait a year. Always confirm the current minimum before you promise a ride.
Plan around naps and heat
Magic Kingdom days work best for small children when you get in early, ride the headline attractions first, and head back for a long midday break. Our post on Disney World with a 5-year-old goes deeper on naps and pacing, and the rope drop plan for off-site families shows how to start the day well.
Skip the lines the smart way
Check Disney's current line-skipping options, such as Lightning Lane, before your trip, since prices and rules change. Many families simply book the most popular ride for early in the day and fill the rest with shorter waits.

Why Windsor Hills makes a short-legged day easier
Staying close to the parks means a midday nap is much less of a production. Windsor Hills is a gated resort, and Disney property is about 5 to 10 minutes away by car, with Magic Kingdom usually about 10 to 12 minutes depending on traffic. There is no resort shuttle to Disney, so you'll drive or use a rideshare, but the short trip is easy to fit around nap time.
Back at the resort, kids can cool off at the heated lagoon pool, the splash areas and the Sir Windsor AquaVenture water park, or burn off energy at the playground and the games room. Many of the private-pool homes, condos and townhouses have full kitchens and space for the whole family, which makes early mornings and quiet evenings simpler. Booking direct with owners is a good way to find the right fit.
Quick checklist
- Measure your child at home, in shoes they'll wear.
- Check current heights on Disney's site or app.
- Pick two or three must-do rides and start with those.
- Plan a midday break at your rental.
- Have a backup plan for rides your child is almost tall enough for.
