Magic Kingdom is the park most families picture when they say “Disney World” — castle, monorail, fireworks, the whole thing. It is also the one park where driving has an extra step that surprises first-time visitors.
Windsor Hills is very close to Walt Disney World property, but when you drive to Magic Kingdom you do not park outside Cinderella Castle. You park at Disney’s Transportation and Ticket Center, usually called the TTC, and then continue to the park entrance.
How the drive works from Windsor Hills
Windsor Hills is located at 2600 N Old Lake Wilson Road in Kissimmee. The resort’s guest information describes Walt Disney World property as about 5 to 10 minutes away by car, although the full trip to Magic Kingdom depends on traffic, parking entry and your transportation from the TTC.
Use live navigation on the morning of your visit. Central Florida traffic changes quickly, and Disney occasionally adjusts roadway patterns around the resort.
Step 1: drive to Magic Kingdom parking
Follow Disney signs and your navigation toward Magic Kingdom. Standard and preferred parking are available, with Disney pricing varying by date and vehicle type. If you are park hopping by car, Disney’s current parking rules generally allow eligible paid theme-park parking to transfer between parks during the same day, but always check the current policy.
Step 2: get from the parking lot to the TTC
Disney operates courtesy parking trams at the theme parks. At Magic Kingdom, the tram takes guests from the parking area toward the Transportation and Ticket Center.
Step 3: monorail or ferry to Magic Kingdom
From the TTC, most guests choose either the monorail or ferryboat to reach the Magic Kingdom entrance area. This is part of the fun when you are fresh at 8 a.m.; it feels slightly less whimsical when everyone is exhausted after fireworks, which is why it helps to budget extra time for the full process.
How early should you leave Windsor Hills?
Work backward from when you want to be inside the park, not when you want to reach Disney property. Allow time for the drive, parking toll plaza, finding a space, tram or walking, security and the TTC transfer.
If rope drop matters to you, leave earlier than your optimistic vacation brain thinks necessary. Disney mornings reward the family that is already through security while everyone else is still asking where Dad parked.
Can you go back to Windsor Hills for a midday break?
Yes, and this is one of the advantages of staying nearby with your own car. Families with young kids may leave after lunch, swim or nap at Windsor Hills, then return for evening attractions and fireworks.
The catch is that Magic Kingdom has the TTC transportation step on both ends, so a midday break takes more time here than at parks where you park closer to the entrance. Decide whether your children’s nap quality is worth the transportation time — sometimes it absolutely is.
The Magic Kingdom car checklist

- Keep a stroller identifier on your stroller; this park has a lot of them.
- Bring a portable phone charger.
- Have water and a small snack waiting in the car for the ride home.
